Great North Pedal Steel

Matthew came and recorded the pedal steel for Great Norths album. Although pictured is my Vox AC15 we used the speaker from its cabinet with the Princeton as the amp (out of shot) sounded beautiful. I'm leaning more towards the Arabella for the pedal steel sounds, has a bit more high end clarity that the pedal steel requires.

Great North Album Recording

Over the past few weeks quite a bit has been happening on Great Norths album, Acoustic guitars have been recorded, Piano, Bass and we've started Vocals and Electric guitar. Lots of recording, very little blogging. I've been enjoying my latest purchase; the Royer R121's. They're used as Overheads, Acoustic Mic's, Piano mics (behind the piano) and as a Guitar amp mic so far and I'm sure plenty of other things to come.

Pedal Steel to record on Friday and more Vocals before Christmas.

Great North Drums

We're starting work on the third Great North album, slightly different process this time. In the past we've done most of the tracks live. Last time recording Vocals, Acoustic guitar, Bass and Drums live for almost all of the songs. This time we're tracking to a click and have just finished the main part of the drums to a pre recorded acoustic and vocal guide. Next up either Acoustic guitar or bass... or anything really!

With the addition of 3 mics and a couple of new preamps my drum tracking setup has become a lot more flexible. For Great Norths drums I went with Royer R121's as overheads. RE20 in the kick and the Nady ribbon mic as a kick out mic. I also put the KM184's back in the room as ORTIF room mics.

New band Late Night Poets spent the past 5 days recording 3 songs, perfect timing to get to try out my new Royer R121 and BeesNeez Arabella.
