Clap Clap Riot B-Sides

I recently tracked some drums and a few guitars and then mixed and mastered some B-Sides for Clap Clap Riot. Their new stuff is really great, you should check them out.

Also new and great are a couple of Calves that were born out here the other week, there has been a mandatory visit for almost everyone recording to go and pet them at the moment. They're so cute!

Clap Clap Riot Guitar Teching.

The Aftermath. Nice work Steve.

Yesterday I was guitar teching for Clap Clap Riot who were playing 3 shows in 24 hours. They had played the Friday night in Christchurch, flew back to Auckland at a ridiculous time in the morning ready to play Music In The Parks with the Datsuns where I met them to then go on and play Ellen Melville hall with the Checks and the Naked and Famous in the Evening.

Much less eventful shows and much less stress than at Splore, guitars all behaved themselves except for a string break at soundcheck and a tuner dying.

Lisa Crawley came out and Sang at the park with them too for new song "Yoko Ono" which she features on the recording of.

Really fun day, both shows ran really well, the kids at Ellen Melville were going nuts! Steve stage dived at one point. Crazy.

Splore

This weekend I took a visit down to Splore with Clap Clap Riot as their guitar tech. It was my first real guitar teching job and it was somewhat eventful; basses getting knocked out of tune, straplocks exploding, stage hands hiding guitar amps from me, guitars just not going along with the scheduled guitar changes etc.

Despite this everyone held it together and the boys played a great set to a very appreciative audience.

Feeling slightly worse for wear and in need of some clean toilets we headed home today. Splore is an incredible festival set in an amazing location, however with the majority of the lineup being DJs or Dance acts its just not really my scene music wise. Had a pretty good time despite this though, bumped in to my good friend Tom, had a few drinks, watched Lupe Fiasco, ate some Jamaican food. Good.

Dinosaur Club Tracking

This weekend I had Dinosaur Club round to record, we're working towards a 5 track EP. Tracking went really well we got drums bass guitar keys percussion done for all 5 tracks and started vocals on 3 of them. A really productive weekend!

I even managed to squeeze in time to take some photos!

Dave and Thomas are heading back here this Saturday to finish them off.

Inbetween whiles I have been preocupying myself mixing the 10 Clap Clap Riot demos and Just finished tracking vocals for Grace Lawry's song this afternoon. Busy is good, could always be busier though!

Clap Clap Finished!

We finished tracking everything last night for all 10 of Clap Clap Riots demos, its been quite an intense past few days but fortunately the band are all very competent musicians and we didn't have to spend too long on takes etc.

Yesterday we spent the day tracking vocals, eating muffins and adding some extra claps and clicks etc! Lisa Crawley even popped her head in to track some vocals on "Yoko Ono"

Hopefully soon you'll be able to hear the results (when I am done mixing!)

Turns out the only photo we got of lisa was this one with her pretending to sing... (she doesn't really sing with her eyes closed and arm in the air) (much)

Clap Clap Recording

Yesterday Dave and Steve came back to fix up guitar parts and we managed to start some vocals too for the 10 Demos that Clap Clap Riot are currently recording. In between tracking we managed to fit in some rides on our lawn mower and tractor, they had a race around our packing shed. A good time was had by all and we still managed to be incredibly productive, hooray!

here are some photos of the tomfoolery!

Steve was working hard.

We realised that we all have fender student guitars from the same era!

Clap Clap Riot

I thought I’d post some old photos of the first time I had Clap Clap Riot round for some recordings, at this point my set-up was quite primitive compared to how it is now…

This was before the whole MTV kickstart madness umm kickstarted them, we recorded a demo of “Theif” and they sent it in to NZ On Air and found out that they had got a grant the same day they were performing at the finals of Kickstart…which they went on to win of course.

Anyway enjoy looking at the old pics, I've put up the video for the song Thief just below(which I mixed and tracked various guitars and vocals for after it was re-tracked at the Lab)
