Christmas Album - Bearcat

Recording the "choir" we tracked each part a few times for a big group vocal. Lovely.

Just recorded the Bearcat song for the Christmas Album which will probably be stuck in my head all week, thanks Dan and Josie. I just need to record my bass on it and it'll be done. What a nice weekend spent with friends.

Farmstock

For the past few months I (plus a few helpful friends) have been organising Farmstock, a concert/mini-festival at my house (which is almost a farm) in Oratia.


Last night it happened and went great! Avalanche city had to pull out due to vomiting+187 Gangsters (a comedy hip-hop act who may or may not also be a popular local band) plane from Sydney got delayed and cancelled but it worked out well as it made for a more relaxed running order.

Right now I am exhausted. I was out the door at 8 on Saturday to pick up the PA from Musicworks (who kindly sponsored the event) and almost didn't stop (excpet for a lunch break) till 5 when I had a quick shower and was back out ready to do sound for the whole evening.

When the "stage" was delivered at about 11am I discovered that the lady on the phone hadn't looked at the stage and just read from her computer screen the dimensions and it was considerably smaller than she had said... We ended up sending the stage back and getting it refunded. Dad and I collected pallets from neighbours and used the massive super heavy pallet thing from behind our packing shed to put together a stage at least 3 times the size of the one I had booked!

That was the only major hitch, otherwise everything ran smoothly, no noise complaints, no rain, enough people showed up. Overall I think a good time was had by everyone!

Excitment City!

I am really excited. There are quite a few big things going on at the moment with my recordings going on adverts and in computer games etc. But also alot of music I've recorded being released!

Earlier in the month Bearcat finally got around to releasing their album and we took a trip down to Wellington and Christchurch the other weekend. I was quite disappointed to have to leave the tour party to go on to Dunedin without me but I came back to Auckland and played a lovely show with Grace Lawry.

Well this coming weekend Artisan Guns are having a release party at Cassette no9 on the friday and Great North are having their EP release party on the Saturday at the Wine Cellar.

Lets get outta this town.

Bearcat released their album nationwide a couple of weeks ago so they thought it was only fair to go and visit the finer parts of the country. Dan Jocee enlisted the help of Paul and myself (on drums and bass respectively) and we flew down to Wellington to play Watusi on the Thursday evening.

On Friday we woke up super early and caught the ferry to Picton then drove to Christchurch and played at Red Panda's (an organisation who put on all ages events in Christchurch) Prom. Oh my goodness there are going to be some great bands coming out of that city soon!

Both nights were great! Wellington had heaps of people in crazy (sometimes a bit scary verging on misfits) panda face paint and in Christchurch everyone was dressed in suits and ball gowns dancing crazy! Plus the people of Christchurch are super friendly!

I had to desert the Pandas to shoot back up to Auckland and play a show with Grace Lawry which was a bit disappointing to miss out on road trip to Dunedin, but Grace's show was well worth it! Pukekohe was crazy cool! Here are some photos from the trip...

Xiong Mao

Bear Cat released their album "Xiong Mao" the other week and I played bass at their album release show. Its available in most good music stores NZ wide now or come along to one of their shows and pick one up. I'm quite looking forward to playing with them in Wellington and Christchurch later this month.

Bear Cat Album

Bearcat are releasing the Album I have been working on (on and off) for the past 2 years on Septemeber the 4th in Auckland at Cassette #9.

This is a pretty monumental moment in my life. This was a huge project for me and I am glad its done, I cant wait for you to hear it.

I will be joining them on stage playing bass for the release party (I played bass on most of the album too)

I'm very excited.
